Planned Chicago Launch — 2027

FAQ

Questions, answered.

How GAD Millwork works, who it's for, and what to expect ahead of the planned Chicago launch in 2027.

  • What is different about GAD Millwork’s approach?

GAD Millwork is built around a controlled process from field verification and engineering through fabrication, installation and support. The emphasis is on resolving information early, working from approved drawings and keeping responsibility for the millwork scope clear throughout the project.

  • What does “engineering-led” mean for my project?

It means the technical decisions are worked through before fabrication begins. Field conditions, dimensions, cabinet construction, clearances, interfaces and shop drawings are coordinated so production can move forward from approved information rather than assumptions.

  • How do you reduce the risk of fit issues and on-site rework?

We verify critical site conditions with precise laser measurement and coordinate those conditions during engineering. The goal is to identify dimensional conflicts, interfaces and unresolved details before fabrication, reducing the amount of problem-solving that has to happen during installation.

  • When should I bring GAD Millwork into a project?

Earlier is usually better. Millwork can affect appliance locations, electrical, lighting, stone, flooring, wall conditions and adjacent finishes. Bringing GAD into the project before those decisions are fully locked gives the team more opportunity to coordinate the details before they become site issues.

  • How do you work with designers and architects?

We support the design intent rather than replace it. The designer or architect keeps control of the creative direction and client relationship while GAD develops the millwork technically — coordinating dimensions, construction, shop drawings, fabrication requirements and installation details.

  • How do you support general contractors and custom home builders?

We provide a clearly defined millwork scope, field verification, coordinated shop drawings, production planning and installation support. We work to resolve millwork coordination before it becomes a site issue and keep the project team informed as the work moves from engineering into fabrication and installation.

  • Can homeowners work directly with GAD Millwork?

Yes. Homeowners can work directly with GAD Millwork for custom cabinetry and architectural millwork. If an architect, interior designer or general contractor is already involved, we can also integrate into that team and coordinate the millwork scope with them.

  • Can you work from my architect’s or designer’s drawings?

Yes. We can begin with architectural drawings, interior design packages, preliminary cabinetry layouts or an already-developed concept. We review the available information, identify what still needs to be resolved and develop the millwork into coordinated, production-ready information before fabrication.

  • Do you provide engineering only, or full fabrication and installation?

Both. Millwork engineering can be provided as a focused service for designers, contractors and project teams, or GAD can carry the millwork scope through engineering, fabrication and installation. Engineering deliverables can include shop drawings, cabinet elevations, sections, technical detailing, construction logic and coordination support.

  • Who is responsible for my project?

GAD Millwork is founder-led, with Jakub Gad directly involved in the technical direction and project process. GAD remains responsible for coordinating the agreed millwork scope, maintaining quality control and carrying the project through the stages included in the engagement.

  • How does pricing and estimating work?

We start with an initial review of the project information, scope, location, and timeline. If the drawings and specifications are developed enough, we can prepare a preliminary estimate based on the information provided. If additional field verification, design development, or millwork engineering is needed before the scope can be priced reliably, we identify that first rather than building an estimate around unresolved assumptions.

  • What do you need from me to get started?

Send the project location, available drawings or layouts, a short description of the millwork scope and your approximate timeline. Photos, inspiration images, appliance information and material direction are also useful when available. If the drawings are still preliminary, that is fine — an initial review can help identify what needs to be resolved next.

  • What will working with GAD Millwork look like after the 2027 launch?

Every project starts with field verification and engineering. You approve the shop drawings before anything is cut, see photographs from production before delivery, and the millwork is built in GAD's own shop and installed by our own team.

  • What happens if something doesn't fit on site?

Installation time includes final fitting, and if something doesn't fit, we fix it within that scheduled time. If the cause is on our side, the fix is on us. If it comes from a site change or information we didn't have, we explain the cause and agree the cost with you before doing the work.

  • Do I receive the shop drawings?

Yes. The approved shop drawings for your millwork are handed over to you as part of the project.

  • You’re launching in Chicago in 2027 — can we talk before then?

Yes. GAD Millwork is preparing for a planned Chicago launch in 2027, and early conversations with homeowners, designers, architects, general contractors, custom home builders and future trade partners are welcome. If you are planning an upcoming project or want to discuss a future collaboration, get in touch and tell us where you are in the process.
